Am extremely sleepy at the moment, just came back from work, and time went fast enough, but due to lack of sleep from the night before, I think I'll be hopping straight into bed after typing this up. Last night was fun though, I met up with F+S along with tt to have dinner at Kings Cross, and managed to use my Gold Entertainment card for the first time =D That's always exciting, but since there's a massive backlog of stuff to blog about, especially during the time when my sister came over for her photo shoot, I shall continue with those first.

Breakfast indeed. The cafe was closed and relocated to 114 Terry st, Rozelle, just one day before that, so we missed it. The bakery/patisserie was still open though, and we bought a couple of cakes.

Definitely not the first time we went to Adriano, but because the cakes are always changing, it's always worth revisiting.

They always look so innovative and colourful. Even the flavors can be a bit strange-sounding, but somehow, the unique harmony of flavors always come together pleasantly.

Quirky names and funky descriptions to go with the cakes too. Adriano sure has a sense of humor. Or his workers do.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
Can't go past Adriano's macaroons. Realised that macaroons are one of those things that you think, simply by looking at the recipe, that it really cannot be all that hard to make, but when you actually get down to baking them, a lot can go wrong. Not that I've ever tried- I'm still at the initial stage of looking at the recipe and thinking to myself it looks simple enough. Two flavors there- peanut butter crunch and pear.

And here's Mama Macaroon~ I forgot the name of this, but it's rose and mandarin flavored.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
This thing is caramel. The whole lot of it. Cake, log, interior of log, everything. Chewy chewy caramel~ Name: Shabalicious. Description: Caramel crunch, caramel sponge, caramel cheesecake, caramel chew and caramel cream cheese mousse. Hours on Wii Fit to work this off: infinity.

Toffee apple eclair- self explanatory. It was the most awesome eclair anyone's ever eaten.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
"Ed there's only one ball!"
Hazelnut sable, flourless chocolate biscuit, mascarpone creme legere, coffee brulee, baked hazelnut creme with a coffee shot. This thing was crazy- my brother had the shot of expresso encased in a shell of dark chocolate. He had a food reaction (those who watched Yakitate! Japan will know). A lot of cream in this one, so it wasn't a good idea to leave this one till last, which we did =_= K.O.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
"I'll get back to you Barry!"
Chocolate yogo creme brulee, soft chocolate gel, chocolate cereal crunchy, chocolate sable breton, chocolate caramel mousse, chocolate plaquette. Definitely very soft and chocolatey, not one you could transport home, much less stay out of the fridge for anymore than half an hour. Yogo creme brulee was very interesting.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
It's pear season- we had pear macaroons and now, "What a great pear of..." (Adriano's very bold with his naming of cakes)- Almond cream, pear vanilla creme, pate a choux, sable a choux, pear gel, almond crunch and stryesel almond.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
This is a rather sad picture- it was, in reality, as cold and wet as the photo looks. The cafe's gone so we had no where to eat these lovely cakes. It's really hard to transport them anywhere without breaking them too, so we settled for a bench nearby. I went to buy some forks and plates at Coles nearby while icie and M went to get coffee, tea and hot chocolates from a cafe.
From Week 28-30, 2010 |
It was one of the strangest breakfast we've ever had- imagine having dessert, but very very filling desserts, so much so that it became a whole meal in itself. Without a proper dining place to eat, and, as the weather forecast was rain for that whole week, it started to drizzle when we were finishing off the last few cakes, many would have found us the very picture of misfortune as homeless bums on a wet winter's day. Really though, no one can be at all unfortunate when they are eating Adriano Zumbo cakes for breakfast.
And now, to bed, to bed.
